Oriyomi Hamzat Ends Political Neutrality, Declares 2027 Governorship Ambition Under Accord Party.
Renowned broadcaster and grassroots mobiliser, Alhaji Dr. Oriyomi Hamzat, has officially stepped into partisan politics, announcing his membership of the Accord Party and his intention to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027.
The declaration was made at the historic Liberty Stadium in Ibadan, where a large crowd of supporters gathered to witness what many described as a significant moment in the state’s evolving political landscape.
From Neutrality to Political Engagement
Popularly known as the voice behind the widely recognised grassroots slogan “Oyo n Pe o,” Hamzat explained that his long-standing political neutrality was guided by a desire to promote people-oriented advocacy rather than personal ambition. He emphasised that the movement was created to amplify the voices of ordinary citizens and address societal challenges, not to serve as a vehicle for individual political gain.
According to him, the decision to contest the governorship election was inspired by persistent calls from the grassroots and a growing conviction that more direct involvement was necessary to effect meaningful change.
Commitment to Service, Not Godfatherism
Formally announcing his governorship ambition under the Accord Party, Hamzat stated that his motivation is rooted in service to the people of Oyo State rather than financial strength or political godfatherism.
“I am announcing today that I will contest the Oyo State governorship under the banner of the Accord Party,” he said. “This decision is driven by my commitment to serve our people. My strength lies in the support of ordinary citizens who believe in a better Oyo State.”
He reiterated his belief in people-powered leadership and inclusive governance, positioning himself as a candidate emerging from grassroots support rather than elite political structures.
Call for Peaceful and Democratic Participation
Hamzat also used the occasion to address his supporters, urging them to remain peaceful and law-abiding as political activities intensify ahead of 2027. He warned against violence, thuggery, and any actions capable of undermining democratic values.
Emphasising the importance of civic responsibility, he encouraged citizens to safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), stressing that lasting change can only be achieved through legal and democratic processes.
A New Political Chapter
Hamzat’s announcement marks his formal entry into electoral politics and signals the beginning of what is expected to be a closely watched political journey. As the 2027 election approaches, his candidacy under the Accord Party adds a new dynamic to the contest for leadership in Oyo State, particularly given his strong grassroots appeal and media influence.
Whether his transition from broadcasting and advocacy to governance will resonate with a broader electorate remains to be seen, but his declaration has undoubtedly positioned him as a notable figure in the unfolding political conversation in Oyo State.
