Reports indicate that suspected political thugs stormed the Bodija residence of Gbolarumi during the conduct of the party’s local government congresses in parts of the state.

Sources said the attackers vandalised vehicles within the compound and caused panic in the area, while residents and political associates fled for safety. However, the former deputy governor was said to be safe as of the time of filing this report.

Congresses Disrupted

The attack reportedly occurred alongside disruptions at several venues where PDP local government congresses were being held across the state.

Witnesses said hoodlums invaded some of the congress locations, attacking party members and destroying property. Several persons were said to have sustained injuries during the disturbances, while vehicles belonging to party supporters were damaged.

The congresses were believed to have been organised by a faction of the party loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

PDP Crisis in Oyo

The incident is the latest development in the ongoing leadership crisis rocking the PDP in Oyo State.

The party has been divided into factions, with one camp believed to be loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde, while another faction aligns with other national figures within the party.

Political observers say the struggle for control of the party’s grassroots structures has intensified political tension within the state chapter of the PDP.

Calls for Investigation

Meanwhile, political stakeholders have called on security agencies to investigate the alleged attack and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Analysts warn that continued political violence during internal party activities could threaten democratic processes if not properly addressed.

As of press time, authorities had yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
