Yesterday It Was Wrong, Today It’s Convenient: Idris Damola Olalekan Clever Challenges Ona Ara PDP Leadership.

Justice is not what is convenient; it is what is right, even when it is uncomfortable.

For some time now, I have been hearing certain rumours—rumours I initially dismissed because I strongly believed that our leaders in Ona Ara Local Government stand against hypocrisy and are guided by the principles of equity, justice, and fairness.

However, recent developments are beginning to challenge that belief.

A Walk Down Memory Lane

Let me take us down memory lane.

Last year, my name—Idris Damola Olalekan Clever—was pencilled down for a particular position within the Local Government. However, certain power blocs from my Ward rose in strong opposition. Their argument was simple: power must not be concentrated. They insisted it would be unfair to have the Party Chairman emerge from my Ward and still allow another key position to come from the same Ward.

There were intense debates, back-and-forth arguments, and political pressure. In the end, I was persuaded—almost compelled—to step down in the interest of party unity and to respect what was presented as a collective decision rooted in fairness.

Some even cited instances where both the LG Chairman and Vice Chairman came from the same Ward, but that was quickly dismissed as a mistake of the past—something that should never be repeated.

I accepted that position in good faith.

The Same Issue, A Different Response

Now, here we are again.

The current Party Chairman is from Ward 7. By the very logic that was used against me, no major elective position should be zoned to that same Ward again, if we are truly committed to power decentralization and internal balance.

Anything contrary raises serious questions.

This is not about personalities. The current Chairman and Vice Chairman are individuals I hold in high regard. But respect for individuals must never override respect for principles. If we could strongly oppose imbalance yesterday, we cannot conveniently defend it today.

The Question of Fairness

Let’s be honest: having both the Chairman and Vice Chairman from the same Ward goes against the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness that our party claims to uphold.

Even the constitution of our party emphasizes equity, federal character, and fair representation across all levels. These are not just words on paper—they are supposed to guide our actions.

So the question is clear:

What changes? The principle or the players?

Because if principles can be bent depending on who benefits, then what we truly have is not justice, but selective convenience.

A Call to Conscience

This write-up is not borne out of bitterness, nor is it driven by any hidden agenda. It is a call to conscience. A reminder that what is wrong does not become right simply because it is politically expedient.

Our leaders must rise above sentiments and do what is right—not for today, but for the credibility of tomorrow.

If we fail to stand by fairness now, we lose the moral ground to demand it in the future.

The strength of any political party is measured not only by electoral victories but by the integrity of its internal processes. The PDP in Ona Ara must not become a platform where fairness is applied only when it is convenient.

Let us uphold the same standards we once defended.
